JOB DETAILS:

Network Switching Systems Operator-Maintainer

Job Description

One of the keys to the Army National Guard's success is the ability to communicate. Without that ability, we couldn't coordinate movements, order support or supplies, or give and receive commands. And it's the Network Switching Systems Operator who enables us to do that.

As an Army National Guard Network Switching Systems Operator, you will ensure that Soldiers are able to convey vital information from one place to another through the operation and maintenance of large and small electronic switching relays, system control centers, node management facilities, associated multiplexing and combat net radio interface equipment, short range line-of-sight radio systems, communications security devices, and other associated equipment.

Once you've completed your initial training, you could be qualified in many businesses that employ communications networks, such as telecommunications companies, network services, and government agencies. So by serving your Nation, you can also set yourself up in a promising civilian career by learning the skills you need in the Army National Guard.

Earn while you learn

As an Army National Guard Network Switching Systems Operator, you will learn these valuable job skills while getting up to a $20,000 enlistment bonus, earning a regular paycheck, and qualifying for tuition assistance. Instead of paying to learn these skills, get paid to learn.

After Basic Training, where you will learn fundamental Soldiering skills, you will attend 17 weeks of Advanced Individual Training that will include a combination of hands-on and classroom training with multi-channel transmitters and associated equipment. As you continue to serve, you will have the opportunity to hone your skills with more classes and advanced training.

Requirements

Helpful attributes include an interest in working with network equipment and switches, an ability to apply electronic principles and concepts, problem solving skills, and a general understanding of math and physics. You must meet the following requirements to qualify for service:

High School Diploma or GED (If you do not have a diploma or GED, you may still apply - ask a recruiter about how the Army National Guard can help you earn your GED.)
